Over 1,000 personnel from 21 public service agencies participated in emergency preparedness exercises led by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore's (MPA) on July 11.
Codenamed Exercise Blue Dolphin 2014, the one-day exercise simulated a fire breaking out on a passenger cruise ship heading to Singapore to test the readiness and responsiveness of port authorities and other agencies during a mass evacuation scenario.
Agencies involved included ferry operators Star Cruises and Sindo Ferry, government agencies such as the Ministry of Health (MOH), Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) as well as Red Cross Singapore.
The Marina South Pier also became a temporary medical base where medical personnel from the MOH, SCDF and SAF simulated receiving injured passengers.
MPA Chief Executive Andrew Tan said the drill is meant to convey a message about the culture of safety.-VNA
