Singapore , the host of 28th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) slated for June 5-16, is striving to step up ticket sales for the games.
Ticket sales for several sports, such as swimming and fencing, are selling briskly, while others, such as silat and sepak takraw, have yet to take off, said Lim Teck Yin, Chairman of the Singapore SEA Games Organising Committee (SINGSOC).
However, the chairman is optimistic that sales will pick up closer to the opening of the Games, due to the local tendency to purchase tickets late.
Organisers will also take advantage of other sale channels such as expos, trade fairs and exhibitions.
So far, about 790,000 tickets have been sold at the Singapore Indoor Stadium box office, Singapore Post outlets and on the ticket hotline.
Close to 4,900 athletes from 10 countries in the Southeast Asian region are expected to compete in 36 sports in the Kallang, Marina Bay and Singapore Expo sport complexes.
Eighteen sports will be open to the public free-of-charge.-VNA
