Hanoi (VNA) – The Goethe Institute in Hanoi is hosting the 6th European Day of Languages on October 29 to celebrate and promote multilingualism of member states of the European Union.
The event, an initiative of the Council of Europe, is organised by the European Union National Institutes of Culture (EUNIC) every year. This year’s participants are the British Council, Goethe Institute, Italian and Polish embassies, along with the Aula Cervantes, the Francais-L’Espace Institute, Delegation Wallonia-Brussels and Greek embassy which takes part for the first time.
Themed “Multilingualism at Vietnamese Schools”, the festival provides a special opportunity for teachers and lecturers at schools and universities as well as the public to get an insight into European linguistic and cultural diversity. It also serves as a platform for European languages to introduce themselves.
Within the event’s framework, scientists, linguists and teachers of foreign languages will have a chance to discuss and exchange experiences at a workshop on October 29 morning.
In the afternoon, visitors will be able to explore European languages and culture through 30-minute-long trial classes of different languages such as English, German, Italian, Polish and Spanish and watch short documentaries reflecting European cultural diversity.-VNA
