Strengthening Vietnam-Ireland relations

General Secretary and President To Lam's state visit to Ireland from October 1-4 signifies a key milestone in the strengthening of ties between the two nations. Over the years, both countries have fostered a relationship grounded in friendship and broad cooperation.

Since establishing diplomatic relations, the two nations have achieved positive outcomes. In 2023, bilateral trade reached 3.5 billion USD, with Vietnam’s exports to Ireland exceeding 340 million USD.

Ireland currently has 41 investment projects in Vietnam, with total capital nearing 60 million USD, ranking 55th among 149 foreign investors.

Education has been a highlight of Vietnam-Ireland cooperation. Hundreds of Vietnamese students have received scholarships to pursue master’s degrees in Ireland over the years, and the number of Vietnamese students studying in Ireland continues to grow.

With education and training cooperation as a focal point of the Vietnamese top leader's visit to Ireland, it is expected that upgrading bilateral relations in this sphere will open up broader opportunities for bilateral collaboration, helping the two countries enhance the quality of education, research, and human resources development.
