A quake with magnitude of 7.1 struck off Java island of Indonesiaon the early morning of Apr. 4, with no immediate report of damage orcasualty.
The quake’s epicenter was at 293 km southwestof Cilacap, Central Java and with the depth at 10 km, Xinhua news said,citing Indonesia 's Meteorology and Geophysics Agency as itssources.
After the quake, the Indonesian seismologists issued atsunami warning, saying the tremor had the potential to cause a killerwave and asking recipients of its public alert SMS to warn others of thedanger. Many residents fled their homes.
However, the warning was later cancelled.
The US Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre had said that there was no riskof a widespread destructive wave, but there was a very small possibilityof a local tsunami.
The same day, an earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale struck the Fiji region with no injuries reported.
The undersea quake hit 321 km West of Suva at a depth of 540 km. No tsunami warning was issued./.
