Sumitomo Osaka Cement powers up battery plant

Hung Yen December 1 (VNA) - Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co Ltd (SOC) cut the ribbon on its first battery material plant in Yen My district, northern Hung Yen province on November 30.

The 5 billionJPY (62.5 million USD) plant is specialised in manufacturing cathodematerials for lithium ion batteries, an essential material in the energyrevolution.

"The new plant in Vietnam willprovide a solid foundation to expand our lithium-ion battery cathodematerial business throughout the region and wider world," said GeneralDirector of SOC Vietnam Yoshihiko Sumitani.

Located in a 56,000 sq.m. plot in the Thang Long Industrial Park II, theplant is designed to produce 2,000 tonnes of product per year. Theproductivity could be increased to 10,000 tonnes per year, depending onmarket demands- VNA
