Teenage swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien won a bronze medal at the on-going Asian Swimming Championships in Dubai on November 16.
Vien was ranked fourth after the qualifying round for the women's 400m medley event, but improved her performance in the final, finishing third in a time of 4:48:23 in the pool at the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Sports Complex.
The Olympian also took part in the 50m backstroke event, but could only manage a fifth place finish, failing to match her time in the same event in last year's Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia .
Other Vietnamese swimmers taking part in the 10-day tournament failed to meet expectations.
Hoang Quy Phuoc failed to make an impact in the men's 100m butterfly, Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen was off the pace in the women's 100m freestyle, and Tran Duy Khoi lost in the men's 400m medley event.-VNA
