Swimmer sets SEA Games record

Swimmer Anh Vien set new SEA Games record in the women’s 200m backstroke in 2:14.80.
Vietnam’s 17-year-old swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien broke the SEA Gamesrecord in the women’s 200m backstroke in 2 minutes and 14.80 seconds onDecember 12 at the ongoing SEA Games 27 in Myanmar.

The last record of this event was 2 minutes and 15.73 seconds.

Earlier, Vien also won a gold medal in the women’s 200m individualmedley, which is the first ever that Vietnamese female swimmers recordedat SEA Games.

She will compete in six moreevents and is hoped to bag at least two more golds for Vietnam. Viensaid that she will try her best to achieve as many gold medals aspossible.

On the same day, Vietnamese cyclistssecured the first medal with a bronze in the cross country cyclingmixed-team relay event.

The achievement by HaThe Long, Nguyen Van Quang, Cao Thi Cam Le and Dinh Thi Nhu Quynh isdeemed as a surprise since the team was not highly valued in this event.

At the end of December 12, Vietnam continues torank second in the medal tally with 16 golds, following the hostMyanmar (21 golds). Indonesia was placed third with 10 golds.-VNA
