As a proactive and responsible member, Vietnam has demonstrated its ability to build consensus, foster cooperation, and maintain balance amid an increasingly complex geopolitical environment in the region, said Beni Sukadis, Senior Coordinator at the Indonesian Institute for Defence and Strategic Studies (LESPERSSI)
Speaking to a Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Kuala Lumpur, Dr. Julia Roknifard, senior lecturer in international relations at Taylor’s University in Malaysia, said Vietnam has successfully integrated its foreign policy orientations and strategic vision towards 2030 into the forum agenda.
Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Jim Nickel emphasised that this year’s theme – “Shaping Our Future Together: Peace, Prosperity and People-Centred” – demonstrates ASEAN’s potential to contribute to not only regional but also global peace.
Singapore and Vietnam remain committed to supporting a rules-based international order, strengthening ASEAN integration, and enhancing the bloc’s resilience. The two countries upgraded their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) last year, marking Singapore’s first CSP with an ASEAN member state.
Since joining the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 1995, Vietnam has played a key role in shaping the bloc’s ideological development and expanding its inclusivity.
As one of the world’s largest regional blocs, ASEAN needs to take a firm stance in maintaining the rules-based multilateral trading system, thereby contributing to establishing the foundation for stability and shared prosperity, said a Malaysian official.
