The exhibition “Love of earth and ceramics” is underway at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi, offering visitors a chance to admire the finest works from Bat Trang, Vietnam’s centuries-old pottery village.

Hanoi held a ceremony on February 14 to receive recognition for Bat Trang Ceramic Village in Gia Lam District and Van Phuc Silk Weaving Village in Ha Dong District as members of the World Craft Cities network. Bat Trang and Van Phuc craft villages are not only symbols of Vietnam’s traditional handicrafts but also produce artistic creations reflecting the skill and dedication of artisans.

This achievement reinforces Hanoi’s position on the world cultural map while opening new opportunities for the villages to enhance their competitive edge, preserve traditional values, expand market reach, bolster international cultural exchange, and foster sustainable development.

As many as 42 handicraft artists have been honoured with the title of the Hanoi artisan in 2023, with a ceremony held at the centre of Vietnamese craft village quintessence in Gia Lam district, home to Bat Trang Ceramic Village, on February 28.

The Hanoi Cuisine and Handicraft Villages Tourism Festival has opened to visitors in Le Quang Dao Street in Nam Tu Liem district to entertain SEA Games visitors.

Smart tourism is being applied in a number of tourist attractions in Hanoi such as Bat Trang ceramic village, Thang Long imperial citadel, Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam (Temple of Literature - National University) and Hanoi Old Quarter.

Besides Van Phuc silk village, Bat Trang pottery village in Gia Lam district, Hanoi has been designated to become one of signature destinations of the capital city’s trade village tourism development.

The capital city of Hanoi is striving to welcome 5.5 million foreigners among over 25.4 million tourists in 2018, confirming itself as an attractive destination in the region and the world.

More than 100 young people in Hanoi will take part in five trips to different craft villages of the city and the nearby regions to experience the life and work of artisans, starting this weekend.
