Nearly four months after the launch of Vietnam's 500-Day Campaign, authorities have recovered 1,384 sets of martyrs' remains, according to the National Steering Committee for the Search, Recovery and Identification of Martyrs' Remains.
The nationwide 500-day campaign to search for, recover and identify the remains of fallen soldiers is being stepped up. Most recently, a mass grave containing soldiers killed during the 1968 Tet Offensive was uncovered at Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City. Archived records played a crucial role as the golden key that led search teams to the site.
With support from the military, health workers and local authorities, the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai is intensifying its 500-day campaign to recover and identify the remains of fallen soldiers. Every DNA sample collected offers another chance to restore a name to those still listed as unidentified - bringing long-awaited answers to their families.
The technique was piloted on 58 sets of remains at the Tra Linh Martyrs’ Cemetery in Cao Bang province.
