An official said the initial results indicate the nationwide rollout has begun to achieve its intended objectives, but more comprehensive monitoring over a longer period, with a wider observation network and more frequent measurement, is needed for a precise and objective assessment.
Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc underscored consumer protection as a top priority while chairing a June 2 review of the nationwide rollout of E10 biofuel.
To support the transition, MoIT has directed fuel wholesalers, producers and distributors to secure supplies and accelerate blending and distribution activities to prevent disruptions.
According to authorities, the introduction of E10 will be accompanied by tax and fee adjustments to make it more competitively priced than traditional fossil fuel.
To ensure safer use of E10 fuel, consumers are advised to regularly maintain fuel systems, replace deteriorated rubber components and refuel at reputable petrol stations to ensure ethanol blending quality meets standards.
To ensure compliance with the transition roadmap, the Hanoi Market Surveillance Sub-Department has requested petrol traders to proactively review and upgrade storage tanks, fuel pumps and other technical conditions necessary for E10 distribution, thereby preventing disruptions to fuel supply serving consumption and production demands across the capital.
E10 biofuel will officially be distributed nationwide from June 1 under the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s roadmap on energy transition and environmentally friendly fuel use.
With infrastructure, supply plans and regulatory oversight all in place, Ha Tinh is poised for a smooth transition to E10, marking a significant step in advancing cleaner energy use and supporting sustainable socio-economic development.
Starting from June 1, all unleaded gasoline that meets current technical standards will be required to be blended into E10 gasoline for consumption on the domestic market, Nguyen Anh Tuan, head of the petroleum and gas business management division under the ministry's Domestic Market Management and Development Department, said at a regular press briefing for the fourth quarter of 2025 held in Hanoi on January 29.
E10 biofuel has already been piloted by the two largest fuel distributors, Petrolimex and PV Oil, since August 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Hai Phong.
A draft circular of the Ministry of Industry and Trade stipulates that from January 1, 2026, E10 will be the sole fuel available nationwide for motor vehicles using petrol engines.
Petrolimex will initially offer E10 at 36 retail outlets across HCM City, while PVOIL will pilot the product at six sites – four in Hanoi and two in Hai Phong.
The pilot rollout of E10 biofuel aims to assess consumer acceptance and the technical readiness of Petrolimex’s distribution network, serving as a foundation for potential nationwide expansion.
