Malaysia is planning to establish a transit centre capable of accommodating 1,000–2,000 foreign workers as part of efforts to strengthen migrant labour management, enhance security, and ease airport congestion.

Foreign workers holding the Visit Pass – Temporary Employment (PLKS) for the past 10 years will be given a reprieve to continue working in Malaysia for a maximum three years.

The Malaysian government has pledged to review the existing system for the import of foreign workers to eradicate monopolies by companies, said Malaysian Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran on July 28.

A total of 47,092 illegal immigrants, including 885 children under 12 years old, were detained by the Malaysian Immigration Department throughout 2017.
