The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism said on late September 2 that the southern metropolis welcomed an estimated 1.65 million domestic visitors and 62,000 foreign tourists over the break.
The network handled 321,776 vehicle trips on August 29, up 57.4% from August 27. On August 28 – the last working day before the holiday, traffic reached 262,595 trips, 28.5% higher than on August 27.
Products made by Vietnamese small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and cooperatives, including those certified under the One Commune, One Product (OCOP) programme, are emerging as popular online offerings.
As many as 9,191 trips are expected to be operated each weekday and around 9,033 trips on Sunday, bringing the total to 45,797 trips over the five-day period.
Vietnamese travellers will enjoy a five-day break from August 29 to September 2 for this year’s National Day holiday, providing an extended opportunity to plan trips within Vietnam or travel overseas.
With the five-day National Day holiday approaching, tourists are increasingly opting for short, flexible trips rich in cultural, natural and local-life experiences, prompting destinations and businesses to refresh tourism products, expand transport capacity and tighten safety measures.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has ordered ministries, agencies and local authorities to strengthen measures to ensure national security, public order and social safety during the National Day holiday from August 29 to September 2.
Travel companies are focusing on short two- to four-day trips, flexible packages and experience-driven itineraries, with beach destinations, highland retreats and cultural attractions among the top choices.
The activities are taking place across urban, coastal, cultural, heritage and mountainous areas, helping to promote the central city as a destination of diversity combining beach holidays, cultural exploration, arts enjoyment and sporting engagement.
Hot air balloon performances will be held as part of the 2026 International Folk Song and Dance Festival, scheduled to take place from August 28 to September 2 at Dien Bien Stadium, May 7 Square and Muong Thanh pedestrian street.
With the additional capacity, the group will operate more than 3,600 flights during the holiday period, up 25% year on year.
The national achievement exhibition themed “80-year Journey of Independence – Freedom – Happiness” has become a unique cultural and historical highlight during the nation’s grand commemorations.

From August 30 to September 2, Hanoi will waive fares on subsidised public transport services (buses and urban railways) for residents and visitors. This year, demand for historical, heritage, and experiential tourism in Tuyen Quang province is expected to rise among both domestic and international travellers. Travel companies have responded by developing new tours and routes to serve visitors.

Firework displays will also light up the city at multiple locations that night.
Vietnam Railways Corporation has announced it will operate an additional 51 train services on major routes from August 21 to September 2, 2025 to meet the increasing travel demand for the National Day holiday (August 30-September 2).
