According to the MAE, as of November 15, a total of 79,360 fishing vessels nationwide had been registered and updated in the national fisheries database (VNFishbase), reaching 100%. The number of licensed vessels stands at 76,811. Vessels found ineligible for operation have been placed under local supervision, with commune- and ward-level authorities assigned to manage their mooring.
To tackle the issue, An Giang is rolling out the “four clarities”: clear monitoring responsibility, clear vessel ownership, clear anchorage, and clear vessel status, to tighten control over unlicensed vessels.
Authorities were requested to guide and support vessel owners seeking registration or fishing licences to complete procedures in compliance with the 2017 Fisheries Law.
By the end of July, more than 10,000 vessels in An Giang had been registered in the national fisheries database, with offshore catch reaching 246,000 tonnes, up 17.3% year-on-year.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to complete the comprehensive integration and smooth connectivity to the national fisheries database (VN-Fishbase), vessel monitoring system (VMS), and electronic traceability system (eCDT) in Q1, ensuring seamless data flow from central to local authorities, a move to clamp down on illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Up to now, all registered fishing vessels in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau have had their data updated on the national fisheries database (Vnfishbase), Pham Thi Na, deputy director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said on July 2.
