These days, thousands of people from across Vietnam are returning to the Quang Tri Citadel, the site of the 81-day battle in 1972, to honor the fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation's independence and freedom. During peak periods, the historic site welcomes up to 3,000 visitors a day.
At the memorial monument inside the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel Special National Relic Site, the delegation solemnly offered flowers and incense in memory of heroic martyrs who fought and sacrificed their lives for national independence, freedom and lasting peace.
The Prime Minister and the Government delegation observed a minute of silence in memory of heroic martyrs across the country, including those resting at the Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery, who sacrificed their lives for national independence, freedom and the people’s happiness.
The “500-day-and-night campaign” aims to mobilise the combined strength of the entire Party, political system, armed forces and society to accelerate progress in carrying out the task, regarded as both a special political mission and a meaningful activity of gratitude to those who laid down their lives for the Fatherland's independence and freedom and the people's happiness.
Representatives of management agencies, tourism businesses and the famtrip delegation exchanged information and discussed practical measures to enhance cross-border tourism linkages, especially on the East–West route.
The heroic 81-day battle (28 June – 16 September 1972) to defend the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel stands as an epic chapter in the history of Vietnam’s struggle for national liberation. Thousands of revolutionary soldiers, cadres, and civilians bravely sacrificed their lives, becoming one with the motherland. Every year, crowds of visitors and locals return to the citadel to offer incense during the collective memorial days, paying tribute to the heroic martyrs.
The Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations (HUFO) hosted a screening of the film Mua do (Red Rain) on September 9 for members of the consular corps and Lao and Cambodian students studying in the city, a part of activities marking the 80th anniversary of National Day (September 2, 1945 – 2025),
In recent days, the film has been warmly received, with many viewers visiting the citadel afterwards to offer incense and flowers in tribute to fallen heroes. During the National Day holiday from August 30 to September 2, the site welcomed nearly 10,000 visitors – a record number.
According to the Management Board of the Memorial Site for late Party General Secretary Le Duan and Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, from August 30 to September 2, the site welcomed nearly 10,000 visitors. On September 2 alone, more than 3,800 people visited to offer incense, marking the highest daily number ever recorded.
