Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and his visiting Lao counterpart Sonexay Siphandone held talks in Hanoi on June 7, during which they sought measures to further elevate bilateral ties to a new height and specify the “strategic cohesion” dimension in the Vietnam-Laos relations.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations on September 5, 1962, the two nations have maintained close and enduring ties, demonstrating unwavering solidarity and mutual support in their respective causes of national construction and defence.
The Vietnamese and Lao leaders’ agreement to incorporate the concept of “strategic cohesion” into the bilateral relationship framework marks a historic milestone, reflecting a long-term vision, deep political trust and shared determination to elevate bilateral ties to a new stage of development.
The visit hightlights the special political trust between the two Parties, States and peoples, as well as the Vietnamese Party and State's consistent policy of giving the top strategic priority to relations with Laos.
He expressed his belief that, with their competence, prestige and extensive experience, Lao leaders will continue to lead the country in successfully implementing the Resolution of the 12th Party Congress and the 10th five-year socio-economic development plan (2026–2030), building a peaceful, independent, democratic, unified and prosperous Laos along socialist-oriented lines. He also highlighted the importance of further nurturing the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic ties between Vietnam and Laos in an increasingly substantive and effective manner.
In the coming five years, the two National Assemblies will intensify coordination to effectively implement the resolutions of their respective Party congresses, ensuring that parliamentary cooperation continues to develop in a substantive and practical manner, contributing to deepening the special Laos–Vietnam ties in the new period.
Both leaders agreed on the future direction of cooperation, stressing the need to swiftly and decisively translate commitments into concrete results, taking the interests of the two peoples as the highest measure of success.
