One of the most notable successes is the premium Hoa Phuong Do (Flamboyant Flower) train operating between Hanoi and Hai Phong city. Since entering service in May 2025, the train has completed nearly 3,000 trips and carried around 1.33 million passengers.
On a weekend morning, the “5 Cua O” (Hanoi Five Gates) heritage train pulled out of Hanoi Railway Station to the strains of “xam tau dien” - a traditional folk music echoing through a community carriage. Outside the window, the bustle of the Old Quarter gradually receded and the iron span of the historic Long Bien Bridge slid into view.
More than 500 doctors, nurses and staff of Bach Mai Hospital travelled to its Ninh Binh campus on June 26 aboard a dedicated train service for healthcare workers.
The moves come as the carrier deepens ties with local authorities to fuse rail transport with tourism and lift overall service quality.
The Ministry of Finance said that the overhaul is driven by new mandates assigned by the National Assembly, the Government, and the Prime Minister, including resolutions on investment policy for the North-South high-speed railway and Lao Cai–Hanoi–Hai Phong line, which requires urgent restructuring in capital raising, human resources, and organisational model.
Alongside the new services, the company will also attach additional carriages to the North–South Reunification trains and other daily routes, supplying about 6,600 more seats.
Discussions focused on key issues including land use after equitisation, valuation methods, the treatment of intangible assets, the responsibilities of valuation consultants, and regulations on mergers, acquisitions, and restructuring of loss-making enterprises.
Vietnam Railways (VNR), in coordination with the Hai Phong municipal authority, held a ceremony on May 10 to launch a high-quality train named "Hoa Phuong Do" (Red Flamboyant Flower or Poinciana).
The "Hoa Phuong Do" train is a tourism product deeply rooted in the unique identity of Hai Phong, and it is expected to become a new favourite for visitors.
As part of celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification, a special pair of trains, SE1 from Hanoi Station and SE4 from Sai Gon Station, named “Thong Nhat” (Reunification) will depart simultaneously in the evening of April 29. The two trains are scheduled to meet in Da Nang Station at noon on April 30.
Train passengers can now buy their tickets on online map services such as Google Maps, according to the Vietnam Railways.
