Vietnam exported 3.3 million tonnes of rice worth 1.57 billion USD in the first four months of 2026, down 2.3% in volume and 11.1% in value year-on-year

Vietnam’s rice exports are unlikely to be significantly affected in the short term, Acting Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Duc Thang said.

As of the end of March, Vietnam is projected to have exported approximately 1.6 million tons of rice this year, generating over 1 billion USD in revenue, for a 50% increase year-on-year. The result signifies Vietnam’s highest rice exports for 34 years, offering a positive outlook for 2024 as a whole.

Vietnam’s rice export is likely to surpass the target set for this year, according to the Vietnam Food Association.

Vietnam exported nearly 4.2 million tonnes of rice in the first seven months of 2022, up 20.5% year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

High hopes are pinned on Vietnam’s rice exports in 2021 when major export markets such as the Philippines and Africa continue to sign contracts to buy rice from Vietnam, while many others have great demand for fragrant rice and sticky rice – which are advantageous staples of Vietnamese enterprises.

Vietnam exported 890,000 tonnes of rice worth 420 million USD in the first two months of 2020, a year-on-year increase of 27 percent in volume and 32 percent in value.

A total of 42 businessmen have been licenced to export rice after the Government’s Decree 107 issued on August 15 last year on rice export took effect.

Vietnam exported 4.01 million tonnes of rice worth 1.73 billion USD in the first seven months of 2019, up 2.1 percent in volume but down 14.3 percent in value year on year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Vietnam’s rice exports in the first seven months of this year brought home 2 billion USD, rising 32 percent against the same period last year.
