More than 253,300 tonnes of rice aid worth over 2.9 trillion VND (126.35 million USD) had been allocated to help people alleviate the impacts of natural disasters and diseases this year, said the General Department of State Reserves at a press conference held on December 23.

The General Department of State Reserves has issued Decision 521/QD-TCDT on the provision of over 15,356 tonnes of rice from national reserve to Ho Chi Minh City and Long An province to support pandemic-hit residents.

Ten localities suggested allocating nearly 10,000 tonnes of rice for residents during the upcoming Lunar New Year festival, heard a press conference hosted by the General Department of State Reserves in Hanoi on January 8.

The General Department of State Reserves at the Ministry of Finance on December 2 directed the Department of State Reserves in the Nghe An-Ha Tinh region to deliver 1,000 tonnes of rice from the national reserve to Savanakhet province in Laos, to support natural disaster-hit people in the locality.

The General Department of State Reserves (GDSR) is set to complete this year’s purchasing of rice for national food reserves by August 15.

National food reserves are enough to cater for emergency situations, the General Department of State Reserves (GDSR) said on March 26.

The north central province of Thanh Hoa will provide more than 1,600 tonnes of rice for some 21,000 students from disadvantaged ethnic minority areas.

Up to 5,000 tonnes of rice that are the gift of the Vietnamese Party, State and people for the Cuban people were symbolically presented at a ceremony in Havana on September 14.

More than 14,000 tonnes of rice were provided for needy people in 17 provinces and cities during the Lunar New Year (Tet) 2017.
