Museums in Vietnam will hold various activities to celebrate International Museum Day on May 18, following plans by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), according to a document recently issued by the culture ministry's Department of Cultural Heritage.
A fishing boat of the island district of Ly Son, the central province of Quang Ngai, in July 11 morning rescued 32 foreign fishermen who were in distress at sea, according to Nguyen Quoc Chinh, head of the fisheries trade union in An Hai commune.
As many as 32 fishing boats with a capacity under 90CV in Ben Tre province were fitted with ICOM radio devices, which help fishermen get in touch with the mainland in case any contingency occurs.
As many as 65 ICOM radio devices were handed over to fishermen in the central coastal province of Binh Dinh on January 22-23 under the programme “East Sea connectivity”.
As many as 38 ICOM radio devices have been offered to fishermen in Thanh Hoa under the programme “East Sea connectivity” at a ceremony held in the central province on January 19.
As many as 747 ICOM radio devices have been offered to fishermen from 24 coastal localities nationwide at a ceremony held in the southern central province of Binh Thuan on December 21.
As many as 50 ICOM radio devices have been given to fishermen from the
central province of Quang Nam, enabling them to contact the mainland as
needed during offshore fishing operations.
Vietnamese museum staff need more practical training, said Amareswar
Galla, Director of the International Institute for the Inclusive Museum,
at a conference in Hanoi on October 22.
Following a number of localities, Ly Son island district in the central
province of Quang Ngai was the next destination of the exhibition
“Vietnam’s Hoang Sa, Truong Sa – historical and legal evidence”.
Eighteen fishermen from the central province of Phu Yen have been
equipped with ICOM radio devices, which help them get in touch with the
mainland in case any contingency occurs during offshore fishing
operations.
Two more fisheries unions have been established in Duy Hai and Duy Nghia
communes in Duy Xuyen district, the central coastal province of Quang
Nam, raising the number of such unions in the province to four, with
more than 400 members.
Local governments in the north-central provinces have taken multiple
measures to support offshore fishing activities so that fishermen can be
assured of a livelihood.
Local authorities of the island district of Ly Son in the central
province of Quang Ngai has asked relevant agencies to start search
operations for six men who have not been heard of for many weeks.
