The 2nd Mekong-the Republic of Korea Summit and the 12th Mekong-Japan Summit took place via teleconference in Hanoi.

Japanese media has made extensive coverage of the visit by Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide to Vietnam from October 18-19 at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his visiting Japanese counterpart Suga Yoshihide agreed on major orientations and measures to further deepen bilateral extensive strategic partnership, during their talks in Hanoi on October 19.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc held talks over the phone with his Japanese counterpart Suga Yoshihide on October 12, during which he once again congratulated the latter on being elected to his position.
