Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh inspected the construction of My Thuan – Can Tho expressway and My Thuan 2 bridge on February 6.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the breaking ground ceremony for the first phase of the My Thuan - Can Tho expressway project in Vinh Long city in the Mekong Delta province of the same name on January 4.

The Ministry of Transport and the People’s Committees of the Mekong Delta provinces of Vinh Long and Tien Giang held a ceremony on August 19 to commence the construction of the My Thuan 2 bridge with a total investment of over 5 trillion VND (215.6 million USD).

Vinh Long province has stepped up efforts to speed up site clearance, compensation and resettlement for households affected by the My Thuan – Can Tho Expressway project’s first phase.

The acceleration of investment disbursement for transport infrastructure projects is extremely important as the economy has been heavily affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said at a meeting of the Government’s standing board in Hanoi on March 12.

Construction started on February 27 on the My Thuan Bridge 2 to connect the Trung Luong-My Thuan and My Thuan-Can Tho expressways between Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho, linking the two economic powerhouses of the southern region.

Eleven investors, including those from the Republic of Korea and China, wish to invest in the My Thuan-Can Tho expressway in the Mekong Delta region.

A Ministry of Transport unit, the Thang Long Project Management Board, has asked the ministry to examine its feasibility study for the My Thuan-Can Tho Expressway’s first phase.

The construction of the My Thuan-Can Tho Expressway is expected to begin in the third quarter of this year.
