Secretary General of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Windsor John has stated that Vietnam’s draw with Japan is a big surprise and serves as a motivation for Southeast Asian football, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) said on March 30.
The Asian Football Confederation described Vietnam as “penalty kings” in a recent article reviewing the three-week AFC U-23 Championship in Changzhou, China, in which Vietnam became the first Southeast Asian team to enter the continental tournament’s finals.
Vietnam’s national men’s football team was knocked out of the Southeast Asian Football Championship after the 2-2 second-leg draw at My Dinh Stadium on December 7.
