Mat Than Mountain is a spectacular and unique natural landscape in Cao Chuong commune, Trung Khanh district in the northern province of Cao Bang. The mountain is called Phja Piot in the language of the Tay ethnic minority people, meaning “a mountain with a hole”, as there is indeed a hole with a diameter of some 50 metres running right through the mountain about half-way up.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has developed a plan to build ecological museum models in an attempt to preserve cultural heritages in ethnic minority communities in association with tourism. With over 90 percent of its population being Tay ethnic minority people, Nghia Do commune in Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province, has been selected to promote the model.
At a resettlement area in Phu Luu commune in Ham Yen district of the northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang, spacious houses were built close to each other connected by paved roads and alleys.
Beyond its stunning views of white plum blossoms blanketing the area in the spring and paddy fields stretching out in vast swathes of yellow in the autumn, Bac Ha plateau in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai also impresses visitors with its excellent cuisine, such as black sticky rice cake, pink noodles, and young sticky rice.
