The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) has called for prompt actions by ministries and sectors to control invasive alien species (IAS), some of which have entered Vietnam’s natural environment and caused serious consequences.
The Vietnam Directorate of Market Surveillance said it would tighten inspections along northern border provinces to prevent the import of banned red-claw crawfish into Vietnam.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has urged local authorities, the General Department of Vietnam Customs and the Market Watch General Department to tighten control over the trade and consumption of crawfish.
An agriculture official reiterated that farming crawfish in Vietnam is banned after a company in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap was found to be raising the animal.
