Nearly 60,000 people still remain in shelters about one year after earthquakes and tsunami caused major damage to Palu city on Sulawesi island of Indonesia.
Indonesia has decided to extend its search for victims by one day on October 11, following the devastating earthquakes and tsunami that struck Palu city, Central Sulawesi province on September 28.
The earthquakes and subsequent tsunami that hit Indonesia’s Central Sulawesi have so far killed 1,407 people, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported on October 3.

The Vietnamese Government on October 2 decided to offer 100,000 USD in aid relief to help the Indonesian Government and people overcome consequences of recent earthquakes and tsunami.

The Indonesian Government will not declare the powerful earthquakes and subsequent tsunami in Central Sulawesi as a national disaster; however, it will accept international aid, said Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo said he will directly steer search and rescue activities following the earthquakes and tsunami in Donggala and Palu cities in central Sulawesi.
