Some of the islands in the Truong Sa archipelago have been equipped with special shelter areas considered “common homes” at sea for fishermen to stay safe amid storms and access fishery logistics services, and which also help safeguard Vietnam’s maritime sovereignty.
The Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang has put into operation 13 vessels upgraded and built with preferential loans under Decree 67/2014/ND-CP on fisheries development policies.
The central province of Quang Tri has allocated 9 billion VND (405,000 USD) and 800 tonnes of rice to local fishermen affected by the recent mass fish deaths.
