Shrimp export falls 8.1 percent in eight months

Vietnam exported 1.93 billion USD worth of shrimp during January-August, down 8.1 percent from the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Directorate of Fisheries.

Furniture makers ‘neglecting' local market

Vietnamese wood furniture firms are focused mostly on export markets, leaving the local market to imports, especially from China.

Huynh Van Hanh, deputy chairman of the Handicraft and Wood Industry Association of HCM City (HAWA), said with its population of 86 million and increasing incomes, Vietnam is a promising market for furniture and other wooden products.

Imported glass requires certification

Construction glass importers must provide customs officials with a certificate of quality proving that the glass meets the Ministry of Construction’s technical standards before the goods may enter the country.
