Farmers in central Quang Ngai province have come up with many ideas to protect their vegetable gardens from insects without using pesticides.

The shortage of organic foods in the country is both an opportunity and a challenge for growers, a forum on organic agricultural development was told on August 18.

The market is witnessing a rapid increase in demand for farm products, especially organic ones. However, supply has yet to catch up with the demand.

The rapidly growing demand for organic agricultural produce offers huge potential for businesses to invest in production and develop retail networks, experts said at a recent workshop in Ho Chi Minh City.

Some 30 Vietnamese food and beverage producers will showcase their organic products and others at ThaiFex – World of Food Asia 2018, the international food and beverage trade fair held in Bangkok, Thailand from May 29 – June 2.

Demand for organic farm produce has increased significantly both in Vietnam and globally, and this offers good prospects for businesses investing in the field, a seminar heard in HCM City on May 12.

Farmers and enterprises have met many difficulties in producing and selling organic produce due to the shortage of good seeds, training and cultivated land, said agricultural experts.
