The Military High Command of the central province of Thua Thien-Hue held a ceremony at the Hue city Martyrs’ Cemetery on May 5 to receive and rebury 14 sets of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Laos during wartime.
The Mekong Delta province of Long An has so far found and collected more than 35,500 sets of martyrs’ remains, nearly 17,000 of whom were identified, according to the provincial steering committee on search, repatriation and identification of remains of fallen soldiers.
A memorial and reburial service for martyrs who laid down their lives in the struggle for safeguarding the northern border, was held at Vi Xuyen National Martyrs’ Cemetery in the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang on May 9.
The Central Highlands province of Kon Tum held a memorial service and re-buried 16 sets of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who laid down their lives during wartime in Laos and Cambodia.
As many as 2,223 sets of martyrs’ remains were found and reburied in 2016, together with three collective martyrs’ graves, fulfilling 74 percent of the set target for the year, reported the National Steering Committee for Search and Collection of Martyrs’ Remains (Steering Committee 1232) during a conference in Hanoi on January 10.
