The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference on May 24 to deploy a freshly approved project on sustainable forest recovery and development in the Central Highlands for 2016-2030.
Vietnam now has 235,000 hectares of forest accredited by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) for sustainable management, according to statistics from the Vietnam Administration of Forestry (VNFOREST).
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum to sustainably develop forests with higher productivity in combination with growing medical herbs.
The central province of Thua Thien-Hue plans to grow 13,000 hectares of large-timber forest by 2020, with 40 percent of which received Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)’s certificate, ensuring that products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits.
Experts the JICA on April 8 worked with representatives from the People’s Committee of the northwest province of Dien Bien on a draft of the northwest region’s sustainable forest development project.
