People in five cities and provinces will be able to pay traffic fines online from March 13, Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung has announced.

Five localities will pilot the collection of traffic fines on the national public service portal this month, said Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung has said.

Drivers in Singapore who commit traffic offences due to irresponsible driving now face significantly longer jail terms and tougher penalties after the Singaporean Parliament passed amendments to the Road Traffic Act on July 8.

Stiffer penalties for more than 100 traffic violations take effect this month, generating much public attention.

Fines for traffic violations on highways will be increased in an attempt to reduce traffic accidents, transport experts said.
