With lights turned off for one hour starting 8:30 pm on March 25 in response to the 2023 Earth Hour campaign, Vietnam saved 298,000 kWh of electricity equivalent to about 555.6 million VND (23,617 USD), according to the Vietnam Electricity (EVN)’s National Load Dispatch Center.
The capital city of Hanoi will switch off public and advertising lighting systems in some public areas and streets from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on March 25 as part of its response to the global Earth Hour campaign.
About 492,000kWh of electricity, equivalent to 917 million VND (over 39,500 USD), was saved in Vietnam during the Earth Hour, when lights were turned off for one hour from 8:30pm on March 30.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade officially launched the Earth Hour campaign 2018 in Hanoi on the morning of March 3 with the slogan “Go More Green”.
Turning off lights in one hour and more to save energy, protect the environment and adapt to climate change is the main goal of the annual campaign “Earth Hour”.
Hanoi citizens have been encouraged to turn off unnecessary lights and electrical equipment for one hour on March 19 in response to the 2016 Earth Hour campaign.
