Tay ethnics preserving traditional festival

Along with building new-style rural areas, the Tay ethnic minority group in Khanh Thien commune, Luc Yen district, in the northern province of Yen Bai have, paid attention to preserving a traditional festival in a bid to promote their cultural traits.

The tranquil mountainous commune of Khanh Thien is renowned for a kaleidoscope of staples like duck, phoenix barb, and capon. However, com (young rice flakes) is the most popular offering thanks to the recent restoration of the Cac Keng Festival (Young Rice Festival) in the locality.

As its traditional culture has been well preserved by villagers, local practices, beliefs, outfits, and festivals are at no risk of being consigned to oblivion. Local people are radiant with happiness when taking part in the Cac Keng Festival.

The Tay ethnic minority people feel a glow of pride from living in a cradle of culture developed and nurtured by generations.

Thanks to policies from the Party and State, the Tay ethnic minority people now enjoy better material and spiritual lives. The holding of the Cac Keng Festival plays an important role in educating the younger generation about the fruits of labour and about building a prosperous village.

Billed as a “gem” of Yen Bai province, Luc Yen has a wide range of historical relic sites, beautiful destinations, and excellent cultural traits of the Tay, Dao and Nung ethnic minority groups. The preservation of traditional culture will contribute to building a prosperous and happy Luc Yen district, which has set the target of becoming a new-style rural district by 2025./.
