Tet greetings sent to Vietnamese engineers at Algeria-based joint venture

Vietnamese Ambassador to Algeria Tran Quoc Khanh visited and offered Lunar New Year (Tet) greetings to the Vietnamese engineers at the oil and gas joint venture of Groupement Bir Seba (GBRS) on January 22 - 23.

Algiers (VNA) – VietnameseAmbassador to Algeria Tran Quoc Khanh visited and offered Lunar New Year (Tet)greetings to the Vietnamese engineers at the oil and gas joint venture of GroupementBir Seba (GBRS) on January 22 - 23.

The Algeria-based GBRS is the firstoverseas oil and gas project that the Petrovietnam Exploration ProductionCorporation (PVEP) has acted as the operator. The other parties in this jointventure are Algeria’s national oil and gas firm Sonatrach and the PetroleumAuthority of Thailand (PTT).

After nearlyeight years of operation, the GBRS officially produced the 50 millionth oil barrelon October 28, 2023, becoming one of the most productive overseas investmentsof the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam).

NguyenThanh Hai, co-General Director of the GBRS, said 28 Vietnamese personnel from the PVEP are joining in this jointventure, most of them holding important positions like directors ordivision heads. Vietnamese engineers also play the leading role in terms oftechniques and take part in the making of critical decisions.

Apart from engagingin plant operation, this is also the first overseas project for whichPetrovietnam has conducted drilling and provided well services. ThePetrovietnam Drilling & Well Service Corporation (PV Drilling) has sent arig to the Bir Seba oil field to drill tens of wells, recordingprogress, cost, and efficiency highly valued by the other two partners, henoted.

Talking tothe Vietnamese engineers of the joint venture, Ambassador Khanh said this isone of the most successful overseas investment projects of Petrovietnam,pledging that his embassy will continue giving support so that the project willkeep developing./.

Binh Thuan ramps up measures to combat IUU fishing

According to the Binh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province has completed registration for all “three-no” fishing boats - vessels without registration, licences or monitoring systems - measuring six metres or more. About 2,710 such vessels have been registered, meeting 100% of the ministry’s requirements and 2,012 operational vessels have been fitted with VMS devices.

Vietnam, US hold 169th repatriation ceremony for American MIA servicemen

At the ceremony, Vietnam handed over four boxes containing remains recovered during recent joint excavations in Hue city, and Quang Tri and Kon Tum provinces. Preliminary forensic analysis on April 15 suggested the remains may belong to US MIAs and they will be sent to Hawaii for further identification.
