The Thai Cabinet has endorsed the Ministry of Finance’s proposal to allocate 3.9 billion THB from the 2014 budget for free bus and train services.
According to the Thai Prime Minister Office spokesperson Thossaphon Serirak, 2.436 billion THB will go to the State Railway of Thailand to help its operation of 164 “social service” trains, and 1.524 billion THB will be given to the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority to help it run 1,562 no-fare buses.
The Cabinet also endorsed the Ministry of Commerce’s proposal to regulate trade in used vehicle tires. A time frame will be established to force businesses making recycled tires from melting used tires to export the ‘new’ products within an acceptable period after manufacture.
The Department of Foreign Trade will be able to confiscate any tire not exported within the allowed time frame.-VNA
