The Thai-Cambodian Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting began on Aug. 24 in Thailand 's northeastern Nakhon Ratchasima province to discuss several issues, including troop withdrawal.
The meeting was co-chaired by Lt-Gen Thawatchai Samutsakhon, Thailand 's Second Region Army commander, and Cambodia 's Fourth Region Army commander Lt-Gen Chea Mon, together with Deputy Defence Minister Neang Phat.
Among the 15 agenda items, troop withdrawal from the disputed area around Preah Vihear Temple will be raised for discussion.
The two-day talks will focus on issues including national security, border peace, land development, environmental issues and anti-narcotics measures.
It will discuss the agenda for the 8 th meeting of the Thailand-Cambodia General Border Committee (GBC) in Phnom Penh on Sept. 8.
Both GBC and RBC meetings have been delayed since bilateral relations became tense in 2008, when UNESCO placed the Preah Vihear Temple on its list of world heritage sites. However, relations between the two countries saw signs of improvement after Thailand elected a new government.
On this occasion, Cambodian representatives also congratulated the new Thai government led by Pheu Thai Party, which assumed office following July elections./.
