The Thai Commerce Ministry is confident that Thailand will see 5-7 percent export growth next year thanks to the global economic recovery.

Despite the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB)’s recent forecast that Thailand would see a zero-percent export growth this year, Commerce Minister Niwatthamrong Boonsongpaisan reiterated that the country will see a one- percent expansion in its exports as anticipated earlier, and that the government will, in the last two months of 2013, go all out pushing for the export to reach its target.

The minister cited the world economic slump as one of the main factors contributing to the drop in Thai exports. He, however, expressed his belief that next year’s exports will grow in the range of 5-7 percent in line with the expected global economic recovery.

The government will do its best to find new markets for Thai exporters, while helping them maintain their existing trade partners. The government is also eyeing more overseas roadshows in order to build confidence in Thai products among foreign importers, he added.-VNA
