The Thai government has approved of the construction of a waste disposal plant in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, 76km north of Bangkok, in a pilot programme in the government's waste management agenda.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Major General Sansern Kaewkamnerd revealed that the programme will be divided into two projects. The first will construct a 372-rai landfill which will accommodate 200,000 tonnes of waste. The project is scheduled to be complete by August this year with a budget of 369 million THB.
The second project will construct two waste-to-energy plants. The first is a biofuel plant to be completed by January next year with a budget of 380 million baht. The second is a waste incineration plant with an output of 3,800 KW to be completed in March 2017 with a budget of 635 million THB.
Gen Sansern said Ayutthaya province is currently facing a waste disposal crisis. Therefore, the province was chosen to pioneer the country’s waste management initiatives, which will be expanded throughout the country.-VNA
