Thai PM calls for rebuilding investors’ confidence

Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has instructed all agencies related to the nation's economy to quickly formulate a strategy to rebuild investors’ and tourists' confidence for 2014.

Teerat Ratanasewe, Spokesman of the Prime Minister's Office, revealedthat international analysts are still confident on Thailand 'seconomic stability and have yet to adjust the nation's confidence indexranking.

He said the issue was raised to a recentmeeting between the Economic Policy Supervisory Working Group chaired bythe Prime Minister and economic ministers and related governmentagencies. The meeting also heard a report by the Office of the NationalEconomic and Social Development Board that the ongoing politicalprotests have diminished the consumer and business confidence indexes.

At the meeting, Minister of Tourism and Sports SomsakPhureesak expressed his concerns over the sensitivity of the Thaipolitics among the Japanese tourists. He strongly proposed that theGovernment urgently issue measures to stimulate the tourism market.

Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister SurapongTovijakchaikul informed that the Prime Minister has already assignedrelated agencies including him, to come up with stimulus strategies inorder to urgently regain foreign confidence especially from thosecountries that have warned their citizens against visiting Thailand.-VNA
