Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra repeatedly instructed security agencies to avoid using violence while dealing with protesters on the second day of the Bangkok shutdown.

The National Security Council (NSC) revealed after a meeting with the premier that the situation in general is well contained and there have been no reports of violence or clashes.

Prime Minister Yingluck said during the meeting that the agencies’ main priority is to protect civilians and to utilize peaceful measures to deal with demonstrators.

The NSC insisted that the enforcement of the emergency decree has not been discussed during the meeting. The panel expects the mass protests to last around fives days.

The agency also dismissed rumours regarding the setting up of an exiled government, saying the claim is baseless.-VNA
