Thai police on August 29 arrested a taxi driver who is suspected for supporting those behind the recent bomb attack near the Erawan shrine in Bangkok.

The suspect, who lives in the Thai northeastern province of Surin, has been taken to Bangkok for further investigation.

Earlier the same day, the police arrested a Turkish passport holder who is believed to involve in the bombing.

The Bangkok Post quoted police Prawut Thavornsiri as saying the police raided an apartment on Soi Chueam Samphan 11 in the capital’s Nong Chok district and arrested its occupant.

It reported that bomb-making equipment was found, including ball-bearings that are very similar to those used in the Erawen shrine bombing.

According to Prawut Thavornsiri, the arrested man looks after the suspect in the bombing recorded by the security cameras.

Thai national police chief Somyot Poompanmoung said plainclothes police were instrumental in tracking down the suspect and that others were involved in the plot, possible some Thais.

The bomb attack on August 17 took at least 20 lives, including many foreign tourists.-VNA
