Thailand, Airbus join hands to build aircraft maintenance facility

Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s national flag carrier Thai Airways International (THAI) and the Airbus Industries on March 8 inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly evaluate the feasibility of a new maintenance, repair and overhaul facility at U-Tapao Airport in eastern Thailand.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak lauded the cooperation as a dream coming true.

The Deputy Prime Minister appealed to the two sides to promptly complete the feasible study within one year and move on to a public-private partnership for the implementation of the project. He added that a chain of economic activities will be launched in the upcoming one and two years as a result of the cooperation, especially in the East – West Economic Corridor.

Acting President of THAI Usanee Sangsingkaew said that the inking of the MoU is part of Thailand’s ambitious plan to become a maintenance hub for the region and for airlines across the region and beyond.-VNA
