Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce is set to hold talks with Thai economic diplomats stationed around the world in May in a bid to revise the country’s export growth target.
Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom said that the Thai baht has strengthened 5 percent over the past year to over 29 per US dollar as a result of short-term foreign investment in Thai bonds and the stock market through financial institutions.
Boonsong expressed his belief that the Thai currency will not gain strength to an extent that impacts the export sector in the first quarter.
The ministry is expected to hold a meeting with directors of International Trade Promotion offices worldwide to assess the situation in the next two months, he said, adding that currently, this year’s projected export growth of 8-9 percent will remain unchanged.-VNA
