Violations of the curfew from 8 pm to 6 am (local time) will result in a maximum 2 years in prison, or a fine of 40,000 THB (around 1,200 USD) or both.

Speaking on the Thai television at 10 pm, May 19, Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva called on Bangkok residents as well as Thai people to cooperate with the government to deal with the tense situation in the country.

He said that several armed elements were trying to hinder the government’s efforts to restore the stability in Bangkok and affirmed the government’s determination to control the situation.

Right after Abhisit’s speeches on television, the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) announced that security forces are determined to repress violent and destructive acts and said those involved in terrorist acts could be punished with the highest penalty.

In another development, under a proposal made by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), the Thailand Court ordered the arrest of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and nine other people on the charge of terrorism./.
