Bangkok (VNA/NNT) - The Euromoney 2017 Greater Mekong Investment Forumhas been held in Thailand to discuss various aspects of development in theMekong countries to enhance the region's economic potential.

Governorof the Bank of Thailand Veerathai Santiprabhob delivered a keynote speech onthe significance of the Mekong sub-region as part of the GMS Economic Corridorthat was established by member countries over 25 years ago to promotecooperation in trade, investment, public transportation, and tourism. 

Theregion has experienced a high rate of economic growth thanks to the largeworking age population and rich natural resources, he said.

However, the region faces several challenges, including high border transactioncosts, which can be resolved with the use of technology, as well as the need toamend trade laws to better facilitate investment activities, he noted.-VNA
