Bangkok (VNA/NNT) - The Euromoney 2017 Greater Mekong Investment Forum has been held in Thailand to discuss various aspects of development in the Mekong countries to enhance the region's economic potential.
Governor of the Bank of Thailand Veerathai Santiprabhob delivered a keynote speech on the significance of the Mekong sub-region as part of the GMS Economic Corridor that was established by member countries over 25 years ago to promote cooperation in trade, investment, public transportation, and tourism.
The region has experienced a high rate of economic growth thanks to the large working age population and rich natural resources, he said.
However, the region faces several challenges, including high border transaction costs, which can be resolved with the use of technology, as well as the need to amend trade laws to better facilitate investment activities, he noted.-VNA
