Thailand and Laos are ready to sign an agreement on cooperation in maintaining border security and preventing human trafficking, said Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai on October 26.
Speaking at a press conference after the 20th Thai-Lao Joint Commission meeting in Chiang Rai, the Thai FM said the two countries agreed to set up a centre supporting human trafficking victims.
Thailand will cover construction and human resources training costs, he added.
Both countries also plan to hold a meeting with Vietnam this year on the launch of a bus route linking the three countries.
Co-chairing the meeting, Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Thongloun Sisoulith said the two countries agreed to complete surveys for border demarcation and marker planting in order to build a border line of peace and stability.
At the invitation of the Lao Deputy PM, the Thai FM arrived in Laos on October 27 to attend a ceremony to kick off construction of a hospital marking the 65 th anniversary of Thailand-Laos diplomatic ties in Bo Kaew province.-VNA
