The Thai authority on August 9 revoked its Internal Security Act (ISA) in three central districts in Bangkok after the parliament completed a controversial amnesty bill on political violence.

As the situation returned to normal, the Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) has decided to lift the ISA, which was imposed on August 1 with the aim of preventing possible violence during the deliberation of the bill, said CAPO Director Adul Saengsingkaew.

Nevertheless, police will continue monitoring the rally organised by the anti-government Thai People’s Army at Lumpini Park .

After two-day debate, the amnesty bill won an overwhelming vote for approval in principle. It will then be debated by a scrutinising committee before it returns to the lower house for final approval later this year.

The bill was proposed by the ruling Peau Thai government with the aim to give pardon to those involved in political events since the 2006 military coup.-VNA
