Thailand, Myanmar boost cross-border transport cooperation

Thailand and Myanmar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cross-border transport at the 23rd Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) conference recently held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand and Myanmar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cross-border transport at the 23rd Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) conference recently held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The MoU is part of the Cross-Border Transport Agreement (CBTA), which will apply to cross border trade between Mae Sot district in Tak and Myawaddy in Myanmar, local media reported.

The MoU involves both nations improving immigration checkpoint and logistic clearances at the crossing, the Bangkok Post said.

Cross-border trade between Thailand and Myanmar reached 193 billion baht (6.4 billion USD) in 2018, a year-on-year rise of 4.9 percent./.
